Totally Tubular Turf November 19, 2019

BIO: Our company looks to complete professional maintenance of athletic turf fields and home lawns for our local community. We have professional employees who are trained and have knowledge of all things turf.

Why do you need your recreational fields and residential yards maintained by a professional turfgrass company? There are many reasons to use a professional company, such as the proper management and health of the turf. Also, for the safety of the people using each field and yard.

Proper management of turfgrass includes many different factors. First, what does the turfgrass need nutrient-wise? It is best to have a soil test taken from each plot to let you know what nutrients are needed and what nutrients are not. It wouldn’t be beneficial to over apply or apply a nutrient when it is not needed; this could cause a problem environmentally and you are wasting valuable money. A professional turfgrass company can also determine which types of grasses are best grown in the area of the yard or field. Here in Richmond, Virginia, we are in the transition zone, where it is hard to grow warm season grasses and cool season grasses. This means to have healthy turf, stricter management is necessary. Proper management also includes the use of herbicides to control weeds, fungicides to control diseases, and insecticides to control insects that are causing damage to the turf. It is important that someone with background and knowledge with all of these chemicals decides which to apply for maximum effectiveness. If someone would apply the wrong chemicals, it could cause damage to the turf or to the environment–not fixing the problem. As for weed control, the best control is a well growing strand of turf. That’s why it is important to have proper management of turf on your recreational fields and yards.

Another reason for a professional company to manage your turf is for safety purposes. This may be more important on recreational fields, but it still applies to some home lawns. A field that is not taken care of properly can have places that could cause possible danger to those who are walking or running on it. Turf fields can have places where the grass isn’t growing–ugly, bare spots–causing holes or low spots on the field. When someone is running or even walking, they could step in one of these low spots and cause a fall or twisted ankle. This would not be good because then the recreation organization could possibly be liable for injury because of poorly maintained fields. Even home lawns could have this same problem, and the risk of you or a family member stepping into a hole and causing an injury shouldn’t be one you want to gamble on. On athletic fields a good turf is needed for breaking falls, especially in contact sports. Those places that do not have a good cover of grass could be dangerous to those playing–healthy turf is essential for safety.

Turf fields and home lawns are very hard to manage and take care of. That is why it is important to have fields and lawns managed by a professional turf grass company. A professional company will help manage the well being of your turf and make sure it is safe to walk and play on. (This is a hypothetical situation for a project)

Introduce Yourself (Example Post)

This is an example post, originally published as part of Blogging University. Enroll in one of our ten programs, and start your blog right.

You’re going to publish a post today. Don’t worry about how your blog looks. Don’t worry if you haven’t given it a name yet, or you’re feeling overwhelmed. Just click the “New Post” button, and tell us why you’re here.

Why do this?

  • Because it gives new readers context. What are you about? Why should they read your blog?
  • Because it will help you focus you own ideas about your blog and what you’d like to do with it.

The post can be short or long, a personal intro to your life or a bloggy mission statement, a manifesto for the future or a simple outline of your the types of things you hope to publish.

To help you get started, here are a few questions:

  • Why are you blogging publicly, rather than keeping a personal journal?
  • What topics do you think you’ll write about?
  • Who would you love to connect with via your blog?
  • If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what would you hope to have accomplished?

You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.

Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.

When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
